Time Flies!

I am always amazed at how fast time goes by and how much little time I do have to get things done! I am learning to not jump into the day and get task oriented until I have spent time with God! The temptation to just dive into a day is large as I think on what needs to be done! I am at the point now where I crave my alone time with Him : )

We celebrated my oldest son's birthday last week, we had to reschedule his birthday dinner to another day as everyone was working and everyone was getting off work at such odd times. Since they were little it has been the birthday persons choice for their dinner and cake choice.....well even though he is married and living in his own home with my daughter-in-love he did not want to let go of the family dinner! That made hubby and I feel good!!!!
He chose a traditional Mexican barbeque with a homemade German chocolate cake. So in spite of the rainy cold weather we geared up the grill for some hot flames and marinated the meat in some yummy spices and herbs......no chilies were involved.....not all Mexican food is spicy! I got the black beans simmering with a smoked turkey leg and garlic and onion, had the Spanish rice made and the tortillas and salsa were ready to go......the meat was seared in very hot flames....oh it smelled so yummy! Scents of summer on a cold wet day.....loved it! My daughter-in-love being from England was not too sure of this food until she took a few bites and fell in love with it.
After we filled our bellies with food we spent some time watching movies relaxing in the family room and catching up with each other....dreaming laughing.... until they started to grumble about dessert, they loved the cake!
German chocolate cake has been our official family birthday cake since my dad was a child! We cannot imagine having a birthday without one! whenever I make mine I always have memories of my mom and also of my "Grandma" I esp love how we use my parents pecans from their orchard for this special cake! It was a good day! So good to spend time with my family! Does my heart good.

I have also worked on my "brain" this past week and have fine tuned the scheduling and different lists that are in it. I think it will work! I am hoping it will make things go smoother around here. Hubby and I have so many to do projects in the making......it will be a very busy spring and summer!

Well I must get into the day as I have finished my coffee and bread.... time to get chores done! I would like to get done early enough to start making my Love Quilt squares.

Time to catch up

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentines day! I had to work that night and hubby had to work in the evening but he still wanted to do something special sooooooo off for a romantic breakfast we went! Not long after we got our orders and were enjoying our omelets did I see these men in white tuxedos, they were walking to our table and loudly asking for me........I just looked at my husband and asked him what did he do now! Well the men presented me with a beautiful rose and a lovely card then they broke into song!!!!!! did I mention the restaurant was packed that morning??????
It was a big surprise but a lovely romantic one if I do say so myself. So today being Thankful Thursday.......
I am very thankful for my husband, we have been together so long now but he still amazes me with his romantic side. He is also such a hard worker and strives to make our needs met as well as our wants. He will also tell you that he is not the perfect man of God, but then who is?, but he tries to lead our family as well as himself in a way that would honor God.
Yes! I am truly thankful that he is my husband and I am his helpmate!

Soooooo cold!

Ok, so now I am ready for Spring to come! I am sooooo tired of putting on the coats, gloves hats and whatnots just to go outside! I am ready to work in the yard, plant flowers get my garden started and just hang out outside!
Snow is all I see when I look outside.......
This is my daughter playing outside with the dogs, snow, snow, snow!

We celebrated hubby's b-day Sat. by meeting the family at a all you can eat buffet restaurant. Everyone had their favorite item to eat and plenty of it too! Mon. he took the day off so we went out for a b-day lunch date, just he and I! We went to Olive Garden, one of my fav places to eat!!!!!
Tues. was his actual b-day, I made ribs for dinner and his fav cake pineapple upside down cake. The kids came and went thru the day to spend some time with him which made him very happy. In the evening the boys gave hubby his gift, a sweet tea maker!

Well time to get a little rest!

How can one be sad and have joy at the same time?

It has been quite a week, my great uncle was taken into the hospital against his desire, to have him check himself out a few days ago. The dr did tell him he would only have a few days left if he left. My uncle did tell them that if he was going to die then he would die at his home, the home he grew up in. this is the same house my mom and her siblings grew up in and I grew up there as well. I spent my summers with my great grand parents as a child.
Today, at 3:10 pm my uncle left our world and entered into the heavens.

A New Start

Wow, where did 2008 go so fast? seeing how fast life can fly by has really made me stop and think about this new year and what I want to accomplish and savor.
as hubby and I were having breakfast we were sharing our thoughts on our goals for the new year. Of course we both want to grow in our relationship with our Lord, letting Him be the leader in our home....we are working on doing devotions together as well as on our own. We both think it is important to have a time of shared devotion and prayer as well as a private time of devotion and prayer.
I of course want to get through my pre-requisites for the nursing program I am hoping to get into in a year. To get into the program I really need to buckle down and focus on getting the last of my classes done and then start studying for the nursing entrance exam!
As for our goals for our relationships, we feel that we really need to spend more time with the people that come into our loves. We need to spend time with them, listening to them, encouraging them as well as praying for them.
Yes, we are excited for the new year.....what adventures will befall us?
I wish you all a wonderful year!

A Big Surprise!!!

We had a wonderful Christmas day! After work I was picked up by dear hubby with a nice big cup of coffee! Yum!
I made some gorilla bread, it's a larger and yummier version of monkey bread. I will have to post some pics in a few days!
P and J opened their gifts and they were happy with the goodies they received, hubby and I were too! P gifted us with some new cozy slippers! I love my slippers as my feet are always sooooo cold. I also received some bath and body works goodies! J wrote me a very special poem. It was a very nice morning.
Since D and T were making us our Christmas dinner for this year it became a very relaxing day. I thought it would be a great time to clean the bird cages. the kids were cooking in our home so the rest of the family did a quick clean up. I was almost done with the bird cage cleaning when I heard hubby tell us that the kids were here. As he opened the door I could not believe the voices I heard! It couldn't be! So I thought. the voices belonged to Tracy's parents!
I knew that Tracy's sister Deb was coming over for a visit during Christmas, but her parents too?! What a wonderful, wonderful surprise. This family has become such a dear special addition to our family.
So Daniel and Tracy's sister Debbie made us a proper English dinner, I have to admit I have become a Yorkshire pudding fan! Oh my it's delicious stuff!!! A wonderful dinner, wonderful company, it was a very blessed day.
